ATS Global Citizenship
As the leading provider of biometric and non-biometric workforce management tools, Accu-Time Systems takes its responsibility to protect and sustain our global environment seriously. Fortunately, along with that responsibility comes an opportunity to promote restorative business practices across our entire industry. Ecologically responsible business practices result in significant gains for our customers, associates and partners. We're sharing technology and encouraging innovations with our supplier partners to help them optimize their systems and reduce packaging. Many of these practices lower costs and boost productivity, demonstrating that sustainable practices have advantages for everyone.
In this section, you'll learn about some of the initiatives that ATS has undertaken so far. We've established three aggressive goals in our sustainability efforts:
- To Comply with Industry Standards and Directives
- To Minimize The Impact of Our Manufacturing Processes on the Environment
- To Improve Our Corporate Environmental Practices
Our commitment to being green is critical to our future ability to adapt, grow and thrive as a company. We look forward to sharing our progress with you on our web site.
Compliance
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive:
RoHS (Directive 2002/95/EC) restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment that will ultimately be sold in the European Union. It restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly brominated biphenyls (PBBs), and poly brominated diphenyls ethers (PBDEs).
In the United States, California has passed similar legislation that becomes effective January 1, 2007. There are numerous other states considering similar legislation.
Accu-Time Systems, Inc. is a global company and is the first Workforce Management terminal manufacturer to announce full compliance with the requirements of RoHS.
A copy of the ATS statement of RoHS Compliance is available through this link. Official information on the RoHS Directive is available through this link, which will take you to the official RoHS Directive Web site (external to ATS).
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) Directive:
WEEE (Directive 2002/96/EC) sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical and electronic goods. The directive assigns responsibility for the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment on the manufacturers of such equipment. Complying companies should establish an infrastructure for collecting WEEE, in such a way that "Users of electrical and electronic equipment from private households should have the possibility of returning WEEE at least free of charge". Also, the companies are compelled to use the collected waste in an ecological-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal or by reuse/refurbishment of the collected WEEE.
Accu-Tech Systems, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Accu-Systems, Inc., is in the process of becoming fully compliant with the requirements of WEEE, and expects to achieve compliance and be officially registered within a scheme by early 2008.
When registration is completed, a copy of the ATS statement of WEEE Compliance and official information on the WEEE Directive will be posted on our site.
Recycling Initiatives
Products and Packaging:
With the launch of the Global Series, ATS has made a commitment that all components used in ATS Global Series products shall be recyclable and/or land-fill friendly. Additionally, packaging materials for the ATS products must meet defined environmental standards with all cardboard box material consisting of at least 30% recycled paper (and in many cases 40%). All scrap materials incurred during the manufacturing process are recycled back to the manufacturer.
Customer Recycling:
ATS, upon request, will dispose of all product returned by customers in an ecological-friendly manner.
Corporate Initiatives
ATS has undertaken measures to reduce our impact on the environment and be the best global citizens we can be. A sampling of those initiatives are listed here:
- All employees are required to recycle all applicable discarded material (including paper, plastic and metal)
- Automatic, programmable climate control systems have been installed to ensure that ATS energy use is minimized
- All employees are encouraged to “think green” in all aspects of their work and to bring new ideas to the team for company-wide consideration
